Church Update and Encouragement
encouragement
Dear Church Family,
I have been a Star Trek and Star Wars fan for many years! I am enjoying the new Star Trek Discovery TV series and Disney+ Mandalorian series. It is entertaining to see in these sci-fi shows the many strange-looking alien life forms, faster than light speed travel, and powerful ray beam weapons or lightsabers. Of course, the show's world view (atheism [Star Trek] or an all-encompassing impersonal force [Star Wars]) opposes a Christian worldview of a personal, all-powerful God who created the universe and who loves humanity!
The Psalmist said this:
When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? Psalms 8:3-4
Is it possible there is life on other planets? Amazingly, in the book The Case for a Creator, Lee Strobel makes the case that our earth is uniquely fine-tuned for life: "Earth’s location, its size, its composition, its atmosphere, its temperature … testify to the degree to which our plant is exquisitely and precariously balanced” (page 156). Also, did you know life could not exist except for our special sized sun (page 174) or our “life-supporting Moon” (page 177)? Dr. John O’Keefe (University of Chicago, astronomy Ph.D.) who was with NASA from 1958 to 1995, said “If the universe had not been made with the most exacting precision we could never have come into existence. It is my view that these circumstances indicate the universe was created for man to live in” (page 191).
May we be encouraged that the Creator loves the crown of his creation—you and I!
For God [the Father] so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
Blessings,
Pastor Steve
