Church Update and Encouragement

Dear Church Family,

On Saturday, August 1, thirteen people from BACBC participated in a "March for Peace," which comprised an ethnically and generationally diverse group of Jesus' followers (I'm estimating over 200) who sang, prayed, and walked from Kennedy Park to Hayward City Hall. At Hayward City Hall, different pastors prayed over the city and Bay Area for God's help, healing, and peace for the Bay Area cities, and also prayed for unity, renewal, and the revival of Christ's body. The primary purpose was to visibly demonstrate unity within the body of Christ.

While I'm still wrestling with how I and the church might participate in racial reconciliation, one truth is clear to me: The body of Christ should show our unity as Jesus' church. That doesn't mean every church must be multi-ethnic, but it does mean we should love the diversity within Christ's body. Paul said it here in Galatians:

"For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." Galatians 3:27-28

The Holy Spirit places into Christ's body all people who have made Jesus their Lord and Savior. He does not discriminate by ethnicity, socioeconomic levels, or gender—we are one!

The early church struggled with this, so it is not a new challenge. Let us show this world without Christ that there are no barriers in Christ's body.

Love In Christ,
Pastor Steve
