Missions Focus: Kingdom Rice (Pastor Steve Hong, Bay Area and Beyond)
Here in San Francisco, music has played a huge role in helping to invite and move people closer to the Spirit’s mission. For years before his passing, my college friend Brent Tanamachi modeled this for me. Wherever we played, be it at the Ferry Building, the subway station, various parks, or even Starbucks, Brent made space for people to participate and sing with us.

Steve Hong shared the following in a recent newsletter. The movie “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” features an elaborate fight scene on a San Francisco city bus. That’s not just any random bus line; that line (the 1 line) and the one it replaced (the 55 line) represents years of advocacy for Chinese people.

Missions Focus: Kingdom Rice - Bay Area , California with Pastor Steve Hong
Kingdom Rice (KR) released a new book written for missionaries. Steve Hong applied the biblical ideas of God-given face, community, patronage, reciprocity, and other ideas commonly found in Chinese culture to the training of missionaries, and stated that support raising is not cause for “losing face.”

May was Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month and Mental Health Month. The irony is that given recent shootings and Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities, mental health issues are often shrouded in silence and shame.

BACBC started supporting Kingdom Rice led by Steve Hong in September 2021. Kingdom Rice was at its busiest in the last six months doing a lot of work between the African-American Church and the Chinese Church
